The Story
On Sunday, May 17, 2026 Double D Gets Lost went to Millersylvania State Park in Olympia, Washington. We were headed back from a night in Seattle, WA and the sun followed us on our way home. After wandering the city, we were ready for a quiet retreat in the woods.Â
Tucked just off Exit 99 near Olympia, WA is Millersylvania State Park. The drive was mostly freeway, followed by a peaceful cruise through the quiet edge of town. Arriving at the park we found easy parking over by Deep Lake. There was plenty of parking spots, the spots are snug so on a busy day it COULD get a bit complicated parking. Near the trailhead stood a map and a small bathroom building.
Our plan was to hike the Perimeter and Maple Hollow Loop trail. However, we did get a little bit lost finding the start of the trail. We found ourselves mixed up in the day-use area of the park. There was again, more bathrooms. There are a lot of bathrooms in this area. Starting out we got a bit sideways and ended up wandering around the day use part of the park before we found our trail. Thanks to the Gaia App we found the path we wanted and meandered through the trees.Â
The trail itself was peaceful and well cared for, the ground was dirt and covered in pine needles. The trees curved over the trail and it was like walking through a living tunnel. The trail is wide and well maintained. There were bathrooms and campgrounds along the trail.
Leashed dogs are allowed at this park, and we saw plenty of dogs on trail. Just remember to pick up their poop!
Overall the trail was a delightful way to spend a May afternoon and somewhere and we look forward to coming back.
If you decide to wander these trails for yourself, be sure to bring a Discover Pass.

Trail Conditions
The trail was in excellent condition. There are several maps along the trail to help orient you. A couple of the maps are damaged which does make it a bit difficult. However, the trails all loop together. There was little to no incline.
